We learned early this morning that the plane carrying Dr. Forrest Pollock and his 13 year old son Preston did not arrive in Texas as planned last night. The flight originated in Western North Carolina. Search teams detected an emergency beacon signal but initially did not think it was Dr. Pollock's plane because of the timing of when they took off (just after 4 am) and when the beacon was first detected. Ground teams searched through the night and were joined at first light by numerous aerial assets.
Late this morning, searchers located the wreckage of Dr. Pollock's plane in a mountainous area of Haywood County just outside Asheville. Neither Forrest nor Preston survived the crash.
Dr. Pollock has been pastor of Tampa Bay's Bell Shoals Baptist Church since 2002. He is survived by his wife Dawn and five other children. At the 2006 SBC Annual Meeting in Greensboro, Dr. Pollock nominated Frank Page for SBC President.
Forrest Pollock was an excellent preacher, a great storyteller, an effective pastor and leader, and a devoted family man. He will be greatly missed not only by his family, church family and friends, but by the SBC and the larger evangelical community. His love for people built bridges with those that he disagreed with. When Bell Shoals was picketed by protesters because of their stand on homosexuality, Pollock joined the protesters at their press conference and asked to speak to those who were picketing his church. When he spoke to them, he expressed love and concern for them.
Dr. Pollock's weekly devotional videos, "An Encouraging Word" grew from just a couple hundred subscribers to thousands as people forwarded them to friends, who signed up to receive them and then in turn forwarded them to others. He loved to use jokes as illustrations, sometimes the cornier, the better.
Funeral arrangements are pending as of this writing. Please be in prayer for Dawn Pollock and her children Courtney, Brooke, Hope, Blake and Kirk, and for the Bell Shoals Baptist Church family.
i am sorry for his family's loss but this is great news for tampa bay. for many years pastor pollock used the bible to justify discrimination and intolerance. when a voice of hatred is silenced we all win.

Mr. Malik, you're aboslutely correct, "when a voice of hatred is silenced, we all win." So much hate does exist in this world and it has created a depressing and dangerous environment. Unfortunately, appyling this comment to Forrest Pollock is incorrect and poorly timed. I am not a member of Bell Shoals and have heard Pastor Pollock speak a only on a few occasions, but never heard a remote tone of hatred leave his tongue. His messages I heard were as the article says, "of love and concern." A devoted student of the Bible, such as Forrest Pollock, may view certain outlooks of society as "different" than his understanding of God's teachings. However, noting, mentioning, or speaking directly on these issues is a far cry from uttering words of hatred. I understand that your view may have opposed his view on sensitive issues, but to classify him as a voice of hatred is unjust. Also unjust is your personal appeal that this is "great news for tampa bay." Great news for tampa bay is lower gas prices, a Super Bowl Championship, or hearing that the Thunderbirds are performing at the airshow. You too are not above the words you wrote and you too should be more tolerant of differences. Just because Forrest Pollock was different from you, his death does not mean that we all win.

Thank you Junior for a much needed response to the cold hearted ignorance displayed in Mr. Malik's response. Mr. Malik, you are truly an insensitive, vile, ruthless and ignorant person and remarks like those that you have displayed are spawned directly from hatred.

Poor courtney...... I wonder how long she'll be out of school

Mr. Malik's comments are sad and obviously based on his own hatred of what is good. I've listened to Pastor Pollock for 5 years and never once heard hatred. When we were petitioned by protestors, he greeted them with love and gave them shelter, water and the use of our facilities...who's spreading the hatred; not outstanding men like Dr. Pollock.

Don't cast your pearls before swine. Mr. Malik's condemnation is just. So is mine - apart from Christ. "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil."

Your words echo of hate. Forest Pollock or his family can not defend himself, but may I say this. Forrest did not preach his ideas, but those of Jesus Christ. Your fight is with God's Son.
Forest was very compassionate when teaching controversial issues.
Now lets talk about Forest. A man attempting to live after God's own heart. He lived his God given life and now lives with
my Savior Jesus Christ in heaven. Forest & his son Preston were
believers of Jesus Christ. May I ask? Are you a believer? If you
were, you would understand the teaching Forest taught. My guest
is your not. Please search the Bible because you will meet God
and it may be today as either your Judge or your Savior. If you
have not believed Jesus Christ; then, God is your Judge. If you have
trusted Jesus Christ; then, God is your Savior. God gave each of us a free will. This is your chose. Your future depends upon your decision. If you have ever sinned once you are condemned to die physically & spiritually as payment for your sin. Jesus will pay this debt as a free gift if you believe Him today; otherwise, you will pay the debt. God is love, but God is righteous. God's righteousness demands payment for sin. If God did not punish sin, God would not be a just and righteous judge. God's love demanded His Son die for your sins, but without believing & accepting your free gift of Jesus Christ you are not saved. "for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." "how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation." "it is appointed man once to die and after that the judgement." "neither is there any other name given among men whereby we must be saved." "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." "he that believeth in me has eternal life."
"except a man be born again, he can not see the kingdom of God."
